Support

Giving this ministry the chance to really flourish requires that I seek outside support. In these early stages, I have discovered that a Patreon page is the best way to do that. But I have also discovered that few people are fully aware of what Patreon is. I thought it would be a good idea to leave a general explanation here. Once you know how it works, your prayerful consideration to provide financial support would be greatly appreciated.

What is Patreon?

Patreon, as the name implies, is about patronage. It is a way for content creators to connect with patrons who are willing to provide monthly pledges, enabling their work to continue and their reach to grow. The use of steady gifts, rather than one-time payments, provides stability while also allowing contributions to be spread out. If you tithe to your church, support any charities, or even have something like Netflix or Hulu, then you already have experience with the way something like this works.

So why does Quest Forums need a Patreon?

I see a great deal of potential in Quest Forums, but getting there requires that some expenses be covered. There are costs involved with advertising, computer and audio/visual equipment, and especially with time. The more of it I can use working on this ministry, the more I can help people find answers to their questions about God and His word. It takes effort, and as Jesus said, "The worker is worthy of his wages" (1 Tim. 5:17, 18). I'm going to need your support in order for Quest Forums to reach its full promise.

Are my pledges considered a donation?

That depends on what you mean, but I will take the most obvious meaning first. No, any pledge you make to Quest Forums will not be tax deductible. Not yet, anyway. It takes time and considerable effort to achieve non-profit status. I hope to be able to do so, and that is another thing your support can eventually help me accomplish, but I am not there yet. If I can do it, Patreon does have the capability to work for non-profit organizations. When Quest Forums has that status, I can change my page to match and your gifts will then be deductible. Until that time, you will not be able to claim your donations on your tax return.

With that said, your pledges are still donations. They are still charitable giving, in the sense that they are a gift not resulting in a tangible consumer product for you. In other words, I am not selling you something. I am asking for your support. If you think the mission of Quest Forums is a God-honoring one, then I hope you will give for its sake regardless of exemption status.

How much should I give?

Once you go to the Patreon page, you will see a number of pledge levels to choose from. Pick one, and you will be prompted to create an account by entering your email address, a password, some contact information, and a credit card number or PayPal account.  The tier you choose will be charged to your card or account at the beginning of every month rather than immediately. For example, that means if you choose the $10 level on April 5, you will be giving Quest Forums $120 annually starting from May 1.

As for which level you should choose specifically, I am not going to make any recommendation. That is a very personal decision. It depends upon your budget for giving and on how much support you think Quest Forums deserves. What I will say is that you should not count out the $1 option. $12 a year is not much to an individual, but if enough people do it, it could be a major impact. Big things can happen if a lot of people give a little.

~~~~~
Money is an uncomfortable subject in ministry. I'm not comfortable asking for it, believe me! It feels so mundane when you are trying to do the Lord's work. But we also need to remember that this is the Lord's world, and He knows that we have physical needs. Money is the way those needs are met. What we have comes from God, and He asks that we take part in the work of His kingdom by giving back to it from what He has given to us. I am here to ask you to consider Quest Forums as a way you can do that. It is a step of faith, no question about it. You have to believe that I am up to the task. You have to believe that Quest Forums will reach people for Christ and strengthen them in their faith. And most of all, you have to believe that God will bless what is being done here. That is the only way it will succeed. I hope you will be willing to be a part of that blessing. Thank you so much for considering it.
